On 12th April, 2010, ground water treatment unit FA 1, built by Hölscher Wasserbau, was brought on line by Environment Minister for Northrhine Westphalia Eckhard Uhlenberg. This forms part of a project to decontaminate ground water polluted by lightly volatile halogenated hydrocarbons. The project extends from Hilden to Düsseldorf-Benrath.
An additional treatment unit, called FA 2, which is identical to FA 1 was commissioned by the City of Düsseldorf and also constructed by Hölscher Wasserbau further downstream. The units are each equipped for a water throughput of 200 m³ per hour.
Both units are currently running trials.
